My apologies for not providing a clearer description. The article was intended to speak to people who have either experienced the culture or partaken in it themselves. But basically, the idea of saying “pause” after a sentence is to excuse oneself from the ridicule or stigmas that can be associated with homosexuality. It usually follows a statement that can be construed as homoerotic. And to clarify, it is not simply a statement that reaffirms ones own sexuality, but actively tries to distance the speaker from habits, turns of phrase,or actions that can be considered “gay” or less than manly.
